negotiation
WHAT IS A NEGOTIATION?
Negotiation is essentially where two sides to a commercial deal with different objectives come together and attempt to reach a mutually beneficial outcome. Negotiation exercises are commonly used in interviews, open days and vacation schemes by law firms. The competition is designed to give you the chance to build excellent skills that you will use not only at law firms or in commercial law, but in all walks of life.
The main aims and learning objectives of this competition are to give students an idea of how to successfully negotiate and to provide a realistic idea of the kind of issues that lawyers work on for their clients, and the challenges that are faced on the job. It's an excellent skill to have, and something you should certainly participate in if you are interested in a career in commercial law. The competition does not require hours of preparatory work and looks fantastic on your CV!
